An Allergy-Free Trip in Israel - Tips

Israel is a beautiful, exotic, historical country with many excellent tourist sites like the Old City in Jerusalem, the Galilee sea, and the Ein Gedi Reserve.  Israel has a fast-growing culinary world with fabulous fresh food options and the heavy Mediterranean and exotic Asian fusions mixed with European influences.

Millions of people visit Israel each year from virtually every country in the world, but until now, Israel was challenging for people with allergies.  Nuts and sesame are a staple of the Mediterranean Diet. When you walk past a bakery, everything is covered in sesame and nuts! However, few people in Israel have food allergies (relative to other countries in the developed world), so local awareness about food allergy safety is low. For families with food allergies, a vacation in Israel often seemed out of reach.

Allergy Awareness in Israel

As mentioned earlier, Nuts and sesame are very common ingredients in the Mediterranean diet. Due to this, the number of people who suffer from food allergies is low, and so is the awareness. However, over the last few years, the number of people who have food allergies is higher.

In the past, many companies didn't label their food for allergens. But thankfully, nowadays, most of the packaged food in Israel has allergy info! We still recommended double-checking the food before you buy it. Here are some tips on how to do an allergy-free vacation in Israel:

  • As soon as you enter a restaurant or a hotel dining room, make sure to alert the staff to your allergies.
  • Translate your allergies into Hebrew so that the staff can quickly identify them. Remember that there are many different types of nuts, and they don't associate almonds with nuts.
  • Explain to the staff the importance of cross-contamination.
  • Before coming to Israel, try to research which packaged foods are safe and which aren't.

Food Allergy Concierge has been helping families traveling to have truly stress-free vacations.  We have started developing group trips for families with food allergies so they can have an all-inclusive, stress-free family vacation to unique locations.  Our trips are planned with luxury and precision by seasoned professionals.

All food preparation on the trips is supervised by our staff of food allergy specialists who oversee every aspect of preparation (including communication with many restaurants and hotels that we have worked with and awareness of the severity of an allergic reaction).  You will also enjoy pastries and treats baked in our allergy-free bakery, where each batch of baked goods is prepared in a sterile environment.  We work with the best hotels and restaurants to give you a genuinely stress-free, allergy-free, luxury vacation.

We hope that we can help you and your family enjoy an allergy-free and stress-free vacation!

What Our Clients Say

Meticulous in their preparations

During our recent visit to Israel, we really struggled to find food for our son who has anaphylactic level allergies to egg and sesame. We approached both restaurants and hotels and were told they were unable or unwilling to take responsibility for preparing his food.

After learning about Dr. Eliana on-line, we contacted her in the hopes that she could provide a ‘normal’ restaurant experience for our family.

Both she and Shani were meticulous in their preparations with the restaurants to ensure that our son had a wonderful and safe experience.

We truly appreciate their efforts to take care of our son, and to provide us with a lovely vacation experience.

Comfortable, calm, and at ease

We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the amazing gift you have given us over this Pesach- the gift of having you with us!!!!

We have NEVER felt more comfortable, calm, and at ease than we did these past 10 days. Your warmth, professionalism, kindness, and care shown through in all that you did.

My children are so grateful that they were able to be with you this Pesach. You made sure that they were so well looked after and they felt so at ease and comfortable with you! You were so amazing and approachable to them! And they LOVED all the food you so amazingly prepared (supervised allergy-free food preparation, managed menus) for them!

It’s very difficult for us to trust people when it comes to our kids and allergies. You magically were able to take away ALL of our anxieties, and nervousness (and we don’t give that away so easily!!)

We can never fully thank you enough. We truly feel that you instantly became part of our family and we look forward to G-d willing being able to be with you and plan amazing trips with you many many many more times!!!!

Allergy Free baked goods for the lockdown

My family ordered a week's worth of food from Food Allergy Concierge during the most recent lockdown. Having the food on hand, and knowing that it was safe for everyone in the family to eat, helped turn the lockdown into a stay-cation! We were still able to take a break from cooking and worrying, and we look forward to using FAC's services again in the future.
