Food Allergies & Honeymooning

Congratulations! You’ve tied the knot with your loved one, celebrated a beautiful wedding with family, and now it’s time for the grand finale of celebrations - your honeymoon!

Although most likely you’ve been navigating life together with your now-new spouse and your food allergies- most people don’t want to feel like their honeymoon revolves around their food allergies (even though, let’s face it- life always does) Here at Food Allergy Concierge- we are constantly being asked how newlyweds can ensure that they have a successful, romantic and hassle-free honeymoon with the ever-present food allergies.

Here are our favorite tips to help you enjoy your special time:

Location is key

This is the most important advice you’ll receive - location is key. Even though you probably have had your dream destination in mind for years already. Consider whether the local cuisine and your allergies are a good match. China and Asian countries, for example, are beautiful places to explore- but the prevalence of nuts and sesame oil in their dishes don’t make them wise choices. In most cases traveling within your own country is best for a hassle-free experience- with benefits like- more luggage space for allergy-safe snacks, restaurant chains you know and trust, and no language barriers.

Plan in Advance

Most love birds like to go out and enjoy a special dining experience in the evenings of their honeymoons, and there is no reason that you can’t too! All it takes is a little bit of pre-planning so your trip can be smooth sailing. Research which places you want to enjoy and contact them before your wedding. You can even see their menus, speak to the chef and staff and enquire about their allergy-free options. Mainly you are getting a feel for their attitude and knowledge when dealing with allergy-free customers.

Please don’t make it about the food.

Ask any couple married more than 15 years what they remember most from their honeymoons, and the chance are they won’t rave about where or what they ate! You know that’s true….. Keep in mind what’s really important- the experience, the love, and the connection- definitely NOT the food. Schedule fun and romantic outings for each day and make this a honeymoon you will never forget!

Bring your own snacks.

One of the benefits of traveling within your own country is (usually) more luggage space- especially if you’re taking a road trip to your destination. Bring along snacks and treats that you can enjoy in peace and calmness. Treat yourself- if not now, then when?

What Our Clients Say

Meticulous in their preparations

During our recent visit to Israel, we really struggled to find food for our son who has anaphylactic level allergies to egg and sesame. We approached both restaurants and hotels and were told they were unable or unwilling to take responsibility for preparing his food.

After learning about Dr. Eliana on-line, we contacted her in the hopes that she could provide a ‘normal’ restaurant experience for our family.

Both she and Shani were meticulous in their preparations with the restaurants to ensure that our son had a wonderful and safe experience.

We truly appreciate their efforts to take care of our son, and to provide us with a lovely vacation experience.

Comfortable, calm, and at ease

We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the amazing gift you have given us over this Pesach- the gift of having you with us!!!!

We have NEVER felt more comfortable, calm, and at ease than we did these past 10 days. Your warmth, professionalism, kindness, and care shown through in all that you did.

My children are so grateful that they were able to be with you this Pesach. You made sure that they were so well looked after and they felt so at ease and comfortable with you! You were so amazing and approachable to them! And they LOVED all the food you so amazingly prepared (supervised allergy-free food preparation, managed menus) for them!

It’s very difficult for us to trust people when it comes to our kids and allergies. You magically were able to take away ALL of our anxieties, and nervousness (and we don’t give that away so easily!!)

We can never fully thank you enough. We truly feel that you instantly became part of our family and we look forward to G-d willing being able to be with you and plan amazing trips with you many many many more times!!!!

Allergy Free baked goods for the lockdown

My family ordered a week's worth of food from Food Allergy Concierge during the most recent lockdown. Having the food on hand, and knowing that it was safe for everyone in the family to eat, helped turn the lockdown into a stay-cation! We were still able to take a break from cooking and worrying, and we look forward to using FAC's services again in the future.
